Hellfire...err...Hellfrost?
So I gave into the temptation. I was continuously dueling this frost mage outside stonebreaker in terokkar and I was having a pretty hard time. Sure, I could definetly beat him, and If his cooldowns were against him, the match was mine... but still. So I gave in and when I hit 66 (update 66) I specced Hellfire into frost. 2 words can describe the change: freaking ridiculous. In all honesty, Hellfire, the master of flame and lava, pyromancer of molten fury is now Master G Ice Cube. From a solo PvE perspective, its not as good as fire, since fire's 2shottiness is more fun. From a PvP perspective, its like black and white. More surivavability, more instants, more utility, more CC, more CONTROLLED burst etc. Still gotta try group pve.

I absolutely love Frost for PvP & PvE, but I'll focus on PvP, since that's my repertoire.
Ice Barrier alone can effectively add 2000 HP to you if used correctly. When you know you're about to be engaged, or even before a duel, cast Ice Barrier and avoid combat until within 35 seconds.
By doing this, you can immediately re-cast another Ice Barrier once that one is broken through.
Also, if you cast Mana Shield before casting Ice Barrier, you'll add another 700 damage to absorption.
Ice Lance does not offer a Chilling Effect, but it does however stack "Winter's Chill" on the target, so you can get to 10% crit bonus faster (although I dropped this talent for Artic Winds because of the upcoming change to the talent)
If you want to do the so-called "Death Combo" in frost, do this...
Summon your Water Ele, then start a Frost bolt cast and have your Ele attack. Right before your Frostbolt is about to release, use the Water Ele's ranged Frost Nova (aka "freeze") on the target and immediately follow it with an Ice Lance.
This combo usually nets me 4200 damage, add in the Fireblast directly afterwards, and it's 5100-5200 damage from this insane combo.
The difference between this "Death-Combo" and a Fire Mage's "Death-Combo" is it comes from multiple spells, but it still cast in relatively the same timeframe.
Sorry to rant like this, but Mage's are a topic I love to discuss, especially Frost Mages. I hope you enjoy your Frost stay.
If PvP is your thing, check out a 17 / 0 / 44 spec, works like a charm.
yep, imp CS/WE is what im going for. I picked up winters chill cuz i instance pve heavily so this is big on bosses.
